Effective August 15, 2026 · last amended August 29, 2026 · Auberge PVT Hostel, operated by 15145597 Canada Inc., 4460 Avenue Christophe-Colomb, Montréal, QC, Canada. These terms, together with our privacy policy, govern every reservation and every stay.
Reservations made on this website are requests. When we accept a request, we email you a secure payment link processed by Stripe; all bookings must be prepaid, and your bed is confirmed only once payment is received. Bookings made through third-party platforms (e.g. Booking.com) are also governed by that platform's own conditions.
Obvious errors and misprints do not bind us. If a rate or a room is published at a price that is clearly wrong, we may cancel the booking and refund anything you have paid, in full.
All prices on this website are in Canadian dollars (CAD) and exclude tax unless stated otherwise. Applicable taxes are GST 5% and QST 9.975%, added at checkout.
Overnight stays also carry Québec's tax on lodging of 3.5%. It is charged on the price of the accommodation only — never on breakfast, laundry, linen, a padlock, a quilt or any other service, which are excluded from it by law. GST and QST are then calculated on a total that includes the tax on lodging. If you booked through a travel platform such as Booking.com, that platform collects the tax on lodging and we do not charge it a second time. The tax on lodging applies only to stays of less than 31 consecutive nights; a stay of 31 nights or more is exempt and is not charged it.
Prepayment by card through Stripe is the standard method. At the desk we can also accept, for settlement and incidentals:
Where a stay was prepaid to a travel agent or platform and a refund is due, the refund is issued to the original method of payment. Credits generally appear within 30 days of processing, depending on your bank.
We may, at our discretion, ask for settlement in cash — for example after a declined card. Nothing in this section limits rights that cannot be excluded under Québec's Consumer Protection Act.
By making a reservation, or by presenting a card at check-in, you authorize us to charge that card for the amounts properly due under these terms: the stay itself, any agreed extension, the security deposit, incidentals you order, and damage beyond normal wear and tear.
We send a written notice of every charge to the email address you gave us, before or at the time of charging, so that you can review it. It is your responsibility to give us an address you actually read, and to tell us if it changes.
We may pre-authorize your card when we receive your reservation. If the card is declined and no working method of payment is provided, we may cancel the reservation without further notice, and an administration fee of CA$15 may be applied.
If you think a charge is wrong, tell us in writing at info@pvthostel.com as soon as you notice it, and in any case within 24 hours of the charge notice or of your departure, whichever is later. Raising it quickly is what lets us correct an error while the records are still open.
Please contact us before asking your bank to reverse a charge. Most billing problems are a misreading or a simple error and we will fix them. Where a chargeback is raised without contacting us first and the card issuer decides the matter in our favour, we may claim our documented handling costs, up to CA$65 for a first chargeback and CA$130 for a subsequent one, plus applicable taxes.
This section does not shorten or waive any right you have under Québec's Consumer Protection Act, under your card network's rules, or under any other law that cannot be excluded by contract — including your right to dispute a charge with your card issuer.
Outside the special event periods described in section 5.1, bookings made directly with us may be cancelled by email or WhatsApp before your check-in date, and your prepayment is refunded in full. If you don't arrive and don't tell us, the first night is charged and that night's bed is released. The rest of your booking stands — you can check in on any later day of your stay, and any nights after the one you missed are refunded in full if you'd rather cancel them. If you know you'll be late, tell us before 9:45 PM and we'll hold the whole booking; the first night is still charged, but nothing else is lost. Bookings made through third-party platforms follow the cancellation policy shown on that platform at the time of booking.
Stays that include any of the nights below are special-period bookings. Instead of the rule in section 5, they follow this cancellation schedule, counted in whole calendar days between the day your cancellation reaches us (by email or WhatsApp, Montréal time) and your check-in date:
This schedule applies whatever the reason — including late arrival, early departure, illness, travel disruptions, weather, or cancellation of the event itself — and a special-period booking cannot be changed, transferred or credited outside it. It covers bookings made directly with us; bookings made through third-party platforms follow the cancellation policy shown on that platform at the time of booking.
The same schedule applies to any other special event or holiday period we clearly designate at the time of booking.
The only exception is the one the law imposes on us: if we fail to provide the confirmed accommodation, section 5.3 applies. Nothing in this section limits rights that cannot be excluded under Québec's Consumer Protection Act.
If we cannot provide the accommodation you booked, our first obligation is not to refund you — it is to find you a bed. A refund does not solve the problem of arriving in a city with nowhere to sleep.
We will relocate you to accommodation of an equal or better standard, and we make every attempt to place you somewhere better rather than merely equivalent. At our cost, we will:
Only if we genuinely cannot place you anywhere suitable do we fall back on money: in that case you are refunded in full, or, if you prefer, you may take a house credit of 120% under section 5.2. That choice is always yours.
This applies however the failure arises — overbooking, a room out of service, or anything else on our side.
A house credit never replaces a refund you are entitled to. Where a refund is owed under these terms or under Québec law, you may always take the refund. A credit is only ever an alternative you choose, or a gesture we offer where no refund is due.
Where a refund is owed, you may choose a house credit instead, worth more than the cash:
A credit taken in place of a refund is your own money. It does not expire, and you may ask us to convert it back to a refund at its cash value at any time.
Where no refund is due — a no-show, a cancellation outside the policy, or a special-period booking under section 5.1 — we may, entirely at our discretion, offer a goodwill credit of up to 50% of the amount forfeited. This is a gesture, not an entitlement, and asking for it does not create a right to it.
Goodwill credits are issued to the named guest and are not transferable, not redeemable for cash, valid for 12 months from issue, limited to one per booking, and cannot be combined with other offers or discounted rates. We will tell you the amount and the expiry in writing when we issue one.
Auberge PVT Hostel is a registered tourist accommodation establishment (CITQ No. 292725) providing short-term lodging for travellers and tourists. It is not residential housing, a long-term residence, or local lodging.
Registration and identity verification are conditions of access. A person who is not registered is not an authorized guest: anyone unregistered found on the premises after 9:00 PM will be asked to leave and, if they refuse, the police may be called without further notice or warning.
Accommodation is offered to travellers. A person whose principal residence is within a 50-kilometre radius of the Hostel is considered local, and the Hostel may decline a reservation, refuse check-in, or end a stay where it is not reasonably satisfied that a guest is a traveller for this purpose. The Hostel may require reasonable proof of traveller status — for example a valid passport or travel document, or proof of a principal residence outside that radius.
This does not apply to, and the Hostel continues to welcome: returning guests; friends and invited guests of the Hostel; and newcomers who have recently arrived in the region and do not yet have established local housing.
This requirement is based on traveller status and place of principal residence, in keeping with the establishment’s registration and purpose. It is not based on, and will not be applied as a proxy for, any ground protected by applicable human-rights legislation, and nothing in this section limits section 16 (Everybody belongs).
Every guest must personally complete the required online registration and check-in workflow before the applicable check-in deadline. This includes providing the requested personal information, completing identity verification, accepting the applicable terms, and satisfying any deposit or payment requirements.
For privacy, security, and identity-verification purposes, our staff cannot complete the online check-in remotely on behalf of a guest, enter confidential information for the guest, bypass required steps, or approve a registration completed by another person. Each guest must submit their own information directly through our secure platform. Personal information is processed and stored using appropriate security safeguards in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable privacy legislation, including the GDPR where applicable.
Failure or refusal to complete the required workflow may result in:
The property is not responsible for a guest's inability to access the accommodation when the guest has failed to complete the required registration within the communicated timeframe. No refund, compensation, or reimbursement is guaranteed in such circumstances, subject to applicable law and the conditions of the reservation.
Completing the online form does not permit arrival after the property's final check-in time. Unless expressly confirmed otherwise in writing, all guests must complete the required workflow and present themselves for check-in no later than 9:45 p.m.
After-hours arrival between 9:45 PM and 4:00 AM is available only when it was declared in the online check-in and settled in advance under section 6, in which case your reservation stays open until the arrival time you declared. If you do not arrive by 9:45 PM and have not declared an after-hours arrival, that night is treated as a missed check-in: the night is charged and the bed is released, and we may re-let that space.
An undeclared late arrival is not guaranteed. If our staff agrees to reinstate the reservation, a reinstatement service fee of CA$100 plus applicable taxes applies. This fee covers the additional staffing, payment-processing and system work required.
At midnight, an incomplete reservation with no declared and settled after-hours arrival is classified as a no-show and can no longer be reinstated. To stay, you must make a new reservation, subject to availability. You may:
For a direct rebooking following a no-show, a no-show recovery fee may apply. This fee will not exceed one-third of the value of the previous reservation and will be disclosed before payment. A new security deposit is also required for the new reservation.
Rate, room type and bed assignment are guaranteed only for a check-in completed within our published hours. After a missed check-in, or where you ask to extend a stay, we will do our best to keep you in the same room type, but we cannot guarantee it and you may be placed in different accommodation of a comparable standard.
For special-period bookings, section 5.1 applies and no refund arises.
If a booking is made for someone else, or for a group, the person who made and paid for the booking must be travelling with the group and present at check-in, to identify themselves, sign for the booking and accept liability for the group.
We cannot accept third-party bookings without the booker present. Where a group arrives without them, we may, at our discretion, cancel the booking, or check the group in on condition that payment is settled at the desk and a further card is placed on file.
Whatever you booked — a bed in a dormitory or a private room — you are always entitled to:
If any of that is not true when you arrive, tell the front desk so we can put it right. Please raise anything about your bed or room within the first 30 minutes so we can fix it immediately and, where needed, move you. Reporting later is still welcome and we will still act on it — this is a service standard, not a deadline that takes away your rights.
Pets are welcome in our private rooms only (the private room and the 3-person private room), for a fee of CA$15 per pet, per night (plus applicable taxes), charged to your folio — maximum two pets per room. Pets are never permitted in dormitories, in the kitchen, or in dining areas. In all other common areas a pet must be leashed or carried, and a pet may not be left unattended in the room unless crated. The owner is responsible for any damage, injury, or additional cleaning a pet causes — see sections 18 and 29 — and a pet that repeatedly disturbs other guests (noise, aggression) is treated under the house rules like any other disturbance.
Certified service and guide dogs are admitted everywhere in the hostel, in every room type, at no charge. This is the law under the Québec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms, and it takes precedence over every restriction in this section. Emotional-support animals are not service animals under Québec law and follow the pet policy above.
If you have an animal allergy, tell us when you book: dormitories are kept animal-free (service dogs excepted), and we will place you as far from the pet-friendly rooms as availability allows.
Dormitory living puts people in close quarters, and personal hygiene is a shared-comfort issue rather than a private one. We ask every guest to shower before first using their bed, and to maintain daily personal hygiene during the stay.
Where a persistent hygiene problem is genuinely affecting other guests, we will raise it with you privately and discreetly first, and give you a reasonable opportunity to resolve it, including access to showers and laundry. We reserve the right to end a stay only where the problem persists after that conversation and continues to affect others.
We will not apply this rule to a guest because of a disability, a medical condition, a treatment, pregnancy, or any other characteristic protected by the Québec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms. If a health condition or disability affects how you can meet this standard, tell us in confidence and we will accommodate you.
There is no curfew. You may come and go at any hour, subject to our staffed check-in times.
Dormitories are cleaned and inspected daily, and this cannot be done properly around people who are in the beds. There is therefore a daily housekeeping window during which dormitories are closed for cleaning; the current window is posted at reception and in each dormitory. Please plan to be out of the dormitory during that window. Common areas, the kitchen and luggage storage remain available to you throughout, so you do not have to leave the building.
If illness, disability, a night-shift schedule or another genuine reason makes this difficult, speak to us and we will make arrangements — a different cleaning time, or cleaning around you. Nobody is required to leave the premises when they are unwell.
The kitchen is available to you throughout your stay, except during the posted service and cleaning periods, which exist for insurance and operational reasons. Ask a host if you need to cook outside those hours.
Clean up after yourself: wash and put away your pots, pans, plates and utensils, and wipe the stove, counters and sink. Where a guest leaves the kitchen in a state that requires staff to clean it, a housekeeping fee of CA$50 may be charged.
Food and drink in the fridge belong to whoever put them there. Label yours with your name and departure date. Taking another guest’s food or drink — milk especially, which goes missing here more than anything else — or helping yourself to hostel supplies, is theft, and is grounds for ending your stay under section 17. Anything unlabelled or left behind after departure is cleared out.
Visitors are welcome, provided you tell us in advance that you intend to bring someone who is not registered. Unannounced visitors may be refused entry. You remain responsible for your visitor's conduct while they are on the property.
Security here is shared, and it only works if everyone takes part:
Our bunk beds are rated by their manufacturer for a maximum static load of 113 kg (250 lb) per sleeping berth. This is an equipment safety limit for the bunk frame and slats — it is not a condition of eligibility to stay with us, and we do not weigh guests.
If that limit is a concern for you, tell us when you book and we will assign you a lower bunk, a reinforced bed or a private room where available, at no additional charge beyond the applicable room rate. Please do not place more than one person on a berth, and do not use the frame or ladder as a step, seat or storage rack.
Building a world where everybody belongs is a core value of this business. Our accommodation is open to all guests regardless of sex, gender identity or expression, race, colour, ethnic or national origin, age, religion, creed, disability, sexual orientation, civil status or social condition.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, pansexual, two-spirit, asexual and allied guests will always find a safe and welcoming environment here. We are an inclusive property, not an exclusive one: we welcome members of these communities and we equally welcome everyone who does not identify with them.
We are Travel Proud — Proud Certified by Booking.com, having completed their Proud Hospitality training in inclusive welcome for LGBTQ+ travellers, and we hold ourselves to the same principles of ongoing education and contribution.
Zero tolerance. Any act of disrespect, incivility, verbal violence, homophobia, transphobia, racism, ageism, ableism, harassment, or any other conduct showing a lack of basic integrity toward guests, staff or neighbours, will lead to the immediate end of the stay under section 17.
Accommodation is offered by reservation and subject to acceptance. A reservation is a request the Hostel may accept or decline, and the Hostel may refuse check-in or end a stay, in its discretion and for any lawful reason — including its good-faith assessment that a guest or visitor poses a risk to the safety, security, property, privacy, or peaceful enjoyment of guests, staff, neighbours or the establishment. Grounds on which the Hostel may act include, without limitation, that the person:
No decision will be based on a ground protected by applicable human-rights legislation, and reasonable accommodation will be provided where legally required.
Where a stay is ended for a serious breach of these Terms or for conduct that endangers or harasses others, the current night is not refunded; if the booking was refundable, the Hostel refunds the remainder of the stay after withholding up to three nights as compensation; if the booking was non-refundable under section 5.1, no refund arises. Where a stay is ended for any other reason, including the Hostel’s own operational needs, unused prepaid nights are refunded in full. Deposits are not retained automatically as a penalty; any deduction must correspond to an authorized charge, documented loss, damage or expense.
If the Hostel cannot provide confirmed accommodation for reasons attributable to the Hostel, the guest will receive the refund or other remedy required by applicable law and the applicable booking platform’s rules.
Where an incident involves an unlawful act, section 20.1 governs what we may disclose and to whom. We do not publish the identity, image or eviction of any guest on social media or in the press, and we do not circulate it publicly. An allegation is not a finding.
To apply these decisions consistently, the Hostel keeps a confidential internal record of persons who have been refused check-in or removed from the property, and the reasons. This record is used only internally, for safety and security; it is never published or shared publicly, and it is handled in accordance with applicable privacy law (Québec's Law 25).
If something is broken, lost or damaged during your stay, the cost may be taken from the security deposit or billed to your account. The most common charges, in Canadian dollars, before tax:
Other charges may apply according to the actual damage. We charge the reasonable cost of repair or replacement, and we will tell you what the charge is for.
These are available at the desk, in Canadian dollars, excluding tax and subject to availability. Most can be prepaid during online check-in at a lower price — the online price is shown first, the desk price second:
Early check-in, late check-out and personal housekeeping are subject to availability: early check-in is confirmed by 09:00 on your arrival day and late check-out at check-in. If we cannot honour one, it is refunded in full. Staying past 14:00 without an approved late check-out is charged as a full additional night.
Your nightly rate does not include daily maid service in dormitories. Housekeeping cleans and inspects the dormitories daily as part of the rate; personal maid service is an optional extra, billed to your guest folio. Payments for services are made to the hostel and appear on your folio — please do not pay staff directly in cash.
A continental breakfast is included with every stay, for each registered guest, on each morning of the stay. It has no separate price and no cash or credit value: skipping it does not reduce the rate.
Breakfast is a continental breakfast: a light, self-service breakfast in the dining area, available from 5:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Service ends promptly at 10:30 a.m., after which the breakfast items are removed. You help yourself and clear your own place; there is no table service. It includes only toast, jam, and tea or coffee. Nothing else is included. It is not a cooked breakfast or a full buffet, and it does not include eggs, meat, cheese, fruit, cereal, pastries, juice, or any additional food. At check-in you acknowledge: “I understand that the self-service continental breakfast is available from 5:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and includes only toast, jam, and tea or coffee.”
Fresh milk is not provided, in any room type or at any rate. We do not stock it. If you would like cereal with milk, we encourage you to pick some up: a litre of milk costs about CA$2 at the convenience store on the corner. Buy your own, write your name and departure date on it, and keep it in the guest fridge in the kitchen.
Breakfast is provided to be eaten here, during those hours, by the person who paid for it. It is not a grocery supply. Please do not decant or bottle breakfast items, carry them to your room or out of the building, or take them for someone who has not bought breakfast.
Tell us the night before which mornings you will eat — that is when we shop. A breakfast you skip does not carry over to another day and has no refund value. Tell us about dietary needs at check-in: we accommodate what we can and refund in full what we cannot. A shared self-serve table cannot be guaranteed free of any allergen, including nuts; if that matters to you, please do not buy it and we will refund you.
For the safety and security of guests, staff and property, Auberge PVT Hostel uses visible security cameras in certain common areas, including entrances, exits, reception areas and designated circulation areas.
Security cameras are not installed in guest rooms, dormitory sleeping areas, bathrooms, showers, changing areas or other locations where a person would reasonably expect privacy.
Video recordings may be collected and used for the following purposes:
The cameras are used for security purposes and not for advertising, promotional content or continuous monitoring of individual guests. Audio is not recorded unless expressly indicated and lawfully authorized.
Access to recordings is restricted to authorized personnel and service providers who require access for legitimate security, operational, legal or technical purposes. Recordings are retained only for the period reasonably required for these purposes, subject to any longer preservation period required in connection with an incident, investigation, insurance claim, dispute or legal obligation.
By entering a clearly identified monitored common area, guests acknowledge that video surveillance is in operation. This acknowledgment does not constitute a waiver of any privacy right and does not authorize Auberge PVT Hostel to use a guest's image for marketing or promotional purposes.
Questions or requests concerning personal information and video surveillance may be directed to info@pvthostel.com or +1 929-310-8968 — see our privacy policy.
Where we have reasonable grounds to believe that a guest or visitor has committed an unlawful act on the property — including theft, assault, threats, harassment, wilful damage or fraud — we may disclose security footage, the incident record and the identifying information we hold about that person to:
We may preserve footage and records beyond our normal retention period where they are, or may become, evidence.
What this section does not do. It is not a release of a guest's image, and it does not permit us to publish any person's image or identity in the media or on social media, or to circulate it publicly. An allegation is not a finding. Disclosure under this section is limited to the recipients listed above and to what is necessary for the stated purpose, and it does not affect a person's rights under Québec privacy law, including the right to access and correct their personal information.
We sometimes photograph or film the hostel for our website and social media. We will not use your image, voice or likeness in any promotional or commercial material without your specific, informed and freely given consent, recorded separately at the time.
Consent is entirely optional, it is never a condition of staying with us, and you may withdraw it at any time by telling us — we will stop using the material going forward and remove it from our own channels where it is reasonably possible to do so. If a photograph is being taken in a common area and you would rather not be in it, just say so, or ask staff.
This section is separate from security surveillance, which is governed by section 20 and is never used for marketing.
Reviews genuinely help us improve, and we may email you a short survey after your stay. We ask only that a review be fair and based on your own experience. We never offer payment, discounts or upgrades in exchange for a positive review, and we never penalise a guest for leaving a negative one.
You agree that we may provide agreements, notices, invoices, receipts and updates in electronic form, to the email address you gave us, and that an electronic signature or a click-through acceptance has the same effect as a signature on paper. We may use electronic and distributed-ledger systems to record and verify lodging agreements. You may ask us for a paper copy of any document concerning your stay at any time, at no charge.
We collect only the personal information we need to identify you, take and record payment, prevent and investigate fraud and loss, meet our obligations as a registered tourist accommodation establishment, and run the hostel safely.
How we handle that information — what we collect, why, how long we keep it, who it may be shared with, and how to access, correct or withdraw it — is set out in full in our privacy policy, which forms part of these terms and is written to comply with Québec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as amended by Law 25.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.
If you are locked out, or cannot get in after hours:
Please do not attempt to force any door or window, and do not let people you do not know into the building.
In any emergency — fire, medical emergency, or immediate danger to a person — call 911 first. Get yourself to safety before doing anything else. In a fire, leave the building immediately and call 911 from outside; do not stop to collect belongings.
Once you are safe, call us at +1 929-310-8968 so we can assist and account for everyone in the building.
For non-urgent health advice anywhere in Québec, dial 811 (Info-Santé — free, 24/7, multilingual).
Never delay calling 911 in order to reach us first.
The program has not launched and nothing has been issued. No token has ever been recorded and no points have been awarded to anyone. There is therefore no balance to convert and no conversion is required. An earlier version of this section announced a three-level “token” program carrying 10%, 12% and 15% discounts: that wording is withdrawn and replaced by the text below.
What is proposed. PVT Travel Rewards is in development. Its unit is the point. The tier structure, earning rates, redemption value and benefits are published, as a proposal, at rewards.pvthostel.com, the program's official page. While they remain proposed they may change, and they change there rather than here.
Before anything is issued. No points are earned, awarded or redeemable today, and we are not promising a date. The final rules — earning, redemption, conversion, expiry and eligibility — will be published at rewards.pvthostel.com before a single point is issued, and those published rules will govern the points issued afterwards. Joining the waitlist does not by itself create redeemable value.
Program conditions. Points will have no cash value, cannot be sold or transferred, and will be personal to the guest who earned them. Stays booked through an online travel agency will not be eligible. We may change, suspend or end the program before it launches; any change is published at rewards.pvthostel.com and, where it touches this section, here as well.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded under the laws of Québec. Guests are responsible for damage they cause to hostel property beyond normal wear and tear.
We may update these terms from time to time; the version published on this page at the time of your reservation applies to your stay. These terms, and the policies they refer to, are always available here at pvthostel.com/terms. Please read them before you book.
Questions: info@pvthostel.com · +1 929-310-8968. These terms are governed by the laws of Québec and the applicable laws of Canada; any dispute is subject to the courts of the judicial district of Montréal.
These Terms are published in French, English and Spanish. In case of any error, discrepancy, misunderstanding or confusion between the versions, the French-language version prevails.
